Tuesday, June 5, 2007

Arrive 1025 hrs at Prague Ruzynĕ Airport.  Transfer to Botel Albatros, a boat hotel. Telephone 1877 209 8635 Nabrezi Ludvika Svobody, Prague, 11000, Praha 1.  Orientation to botel area.  Change of money to Czech crowns (Kc).   Guided tour of the City of Prague.  Remainder of the day is free.  Wander along beautiful Charles Bridge:  music, art & souvenirs for sale; stroll along Karlov St.  Dinner in a little restaurant. Old Town Square at night is dazzling.

Hop-on/Hop-Off Bus: Karlov Street; Charles Bridge; Our Lady of Victory Church (with the statue of The Infant Jesus of Prague);  Mala Strana; Na Kampa; The Castle; soaring St. Vitus Cathedral; St. George’s Church; the Golden Lane.  Remainder of the day is free.  Boat trip along the Vltava.  Shop in booths in Old Town Square.  Many music performances (Mozart, etc.) throughout the city and at the Rudolfinium.

Lunch Break  Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe; Sites of Hitler’s Chancellery and the Führer Bunker. 

Remainder of the day free. Perhaps shopping along the “Kudamm” or at the famous KaDeWe department store.  Evening, a local café or pub.

Haus der Wansee Konferenz; Potsdam:  Frederick the Great’s palaces of Cecilianhof and Sans Souci.

Return to Berlin.  Remainder of the day is free. Perhaps visit Nikolaiviertal (Nicholas Quarter), medieval Berlin with interesting shops.  Boat ride on the Spree R., through the heart of Berlin.  Visits to Alexanderplatz; Potzdamer Platz; plaza near the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedachniskirke (Memorial Church); possible concerts, eastern Berlin restaurants and pubs.

Costs and Other Details of the course:

 

Cost per person, based on two people in a room is $3,450.00 per person.  A single room supplement is $450.00.  Three persons per room subject to availability at lesser cost.

A deposit of $250.00 is payable to “CNU Educational Foundation.”  The balance is due on or before 1 February 2007.  The $250.00 deposit carries a non-refundable fee of $100.00 that will be deducted from the deposit, if the student cancels up to February 1. If Christopher Newport University cancels the trip, all of the students’ monies are returned. Once payment in full has been received on or before February 1, there is no refund, except for reasons specified on the trip cancellation insurance policy that is included in the cost of the course.

The itinerary is subject to change and alteration due to airline schedules, availability of attractions and events, opening/closing times, etc.  A notarized liability release form will be signed by each student prior to departure as a condition of participating in the course.
