Week 5 - Stuff

Hey guys!

I’m sorry this is coming a day or two later than usual!  The internet was down all weekend where I am, so it was rough having no contact outside the town I’m in!  This is week 5 now I believe?  That means I’m already about a quarter done with my semester abroad!  This month is going to be extremely busy for me.  Wednesday, I leave for a long weekend trip with the school to Ireland, which should be amazing.  I am going to see a lot of major sites so expect some fun pictures early next week.  Next Tuesday, I will be making a small trip to London to go to a concert with a friend I met here, and then on Thursday, I am leaving with two friends to Amsterdam for the weekend!  That trip will without a doubt be ridiculous.  Other than the night life, I plan on going to the Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank’s house, and the Heineken factory (I hear it’s a great tour!).

This past weekend was pretty uneventful.  I went into town one night and stayed in the next to work on one of my talent show performances.  I am performing the “Evolution of Dance” with a few people.  If you haven’t seen it before, I encourage you to look it up on YouTube.  It is funny and will no doubt get the crowd pumped up!

I remember from last week that I started to talk a little bit about the culture here.  Let me start again by telling you guys that I finally realized the definition of “Cheers” here!  It can mean either “Thank you” or “Goodbye”.  I’m glad I finally got that straightened out.  Some other interesting words are “Rubbish” for trash, apartments are “Flats”, bathrooms are “loos”, flashlights are “torches”, mail is “post”, waiting in line is called a “queue”, and finally, drugstores are called “chemists”.  That’s enough for one week I’d say!

The SUPER BOWL was last night!  I watched the first quarter and then went to sleep after some studying, so more like halftime.  The game started at 11:35 or so where I am, so going to bed at 1am seemed appropriate.

I didn’t take any pictures this week.  There are a couple that friends of mine have taken while at the pubs and stuff, but they aren’t very interesting.  So…next week I’ll give you a bunch of Ireland!
