Tidewater-North Africa Cultural Exchange Program (TiNA)

The TiNA program is designed to provide student participants from CNU and from North Africa with the opportunity to participate in an academic and outreach-oriented activities program in order to develop cultural awareness, leadership and problem-solving skills, community service activity and appreciation for -- and a first-hand understanding of -- their peers from an otherwise unfamiliar culture.

Phase I will bring 21 students from North Africa to the campus of CNU from July 2, 2006, through July 30, 2006. This phase is academically structured around the theme of American Democracy and American Diversity.

Phase II will provide for 21 CNU students the opportunity to travel to Morocco in connection with the Tangier American Legation Museum (TALM) for an equally cultural and educationally comprehensive three-week experience.

Phase III will allow the North African participants from Phase I to reunite with their CNU peers from Phase II in a two-day workshop and culminate the shared experiences of both cultural perspectives, focusing on shared values and the importance of intra-cultural understanding.
